Bozeman (UW/Montana State)

Meet the Core Team:

Tessa Sawyer (she/her)

My name is Tessa Sawyer and I am a first year medical student with the University of Washington School of Medicine. I grew up in Dillon, MT and went to Montana State University for my undergraduate studies. As an undergrad, I worked with organizations that provided services to survivors of interpersonal violence and hope to continue providing trauma-informed care in my future practice. I am so excited to begin organizing for health equity in the Bozeman community and take these skills with me as I begin a career in the military. I am passionate about women’s health and food security. When I am not studying, I love to play tennis and cook.

Hareen Seerha (she/her) - Lead Organizer

Hi everyone! My name is Hareen Seerha and I’m a first year medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine. I grew up in Great Falls, MT and went to UC Berkeley for my undergraduate education. During my time at Berkeley, I worked alongside houseless folks, refugees, and immigrants to organize and provide greater access to health services. I’m super excited to continue community organizing around public health through HEC so I can learn how to use these skills as a future physician. My passions center around working with and for underserved urban populations. In my free time, I love to draw, cook, and explore new places.

Douglas Raymond (He/Him)

My name is Douglas Raymond, and I'm a first year medical student with the University of Washington School of Medicine. I grew up in the Billings area and attended undergrad at Montana State University Billings. During my time in undergrad I worked as a CNA with the elderly and during my gap year between applying for and starting medical school, I worked as a Surgical Team Assistant at St. Vincent's in Billings. I have always had an interest in getting involved in my community, and when the Health Equity Circle was advertised I saw an opportunity to learn the skills and get in touch with the people that could help me fulfill that desire. In my free time I enjoy running, playing video games, and spending time with my girlfriend and two cats.

Jenna Starke (she/her) - Board Member

My name is Jenna Starke and I am a second year student at the University of Washington School of Medicine based out of Bozeman through the WWAMI program. I am from Helena, MT and attended undergrad at Carroll College. I am involved with Health Equity Circle because I am passionate about serving others and one way to do so is through community organizing. Outside of school I enjoy backpacking, cross country skiing, and horseback riding.

Ellen Guyer (she/her)

Hi, my name is Ellen Guyer and I am a first year medical student with UWSOM! I grew up in Ekalaka, MT, a small town on the eastern side of the state. In my years between undergrad and medical school, I worked as an AmeriCorps volunteer increasing access to public health resources in rural Montana and as a medical assistant in a community health center. I am excited to work with my HEC classmates to promote health equity and reverse health inequities in the Bozeman community and beyond. Outside of school, I love to learn about ecological health, cross-country ski, dissect music lyrics, and listen to podcasts (especially driving across our beautiful state).

Sarah Busch (She/Her)

My name is Sarah Busch, and I am a first-year medical student with UWSOM. I grew up in Great Falls, MT and earned a Bachelor’s in Microbiology and Minor in Global Public Health at University of Montana in Missoula, MT. In the years between undergrad and beginning medical school, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mahalapye, Botswana, doing public health education, promotion, and data management. I am involved in HEC because I am passionate about enacting positive, tangible change, and believe in access to healthcare as a human right. Outside of school, I enjoy writing, playing a variety of instruments, crafting, hiking, and videogames.
